Prior Lake, Minnesota - Exciting new changes are coming to Shakopee Dakota Convenience Store #1 in the Dakota Mall, located across the street from Mystic Lake Casino Hotel. A remodel of the store interior began in late July. The cashiers’ podium will be relocated in front of the windows in the center of the store. A new security system and better visibility will improve efficiency and security. A dining area with booths and tables will provide seating for up to 10 customers at a time, and new offices and storage areas will be added to the back of the house.

Exterior work will include the addition of a new, scrolling LED gas sign in August. Then on August 18, 2008, the day after the SMSC Wacipi ends, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community will begin construction on new pumps. A new pump alignment will provide better customer service by making it easier for customers to access the pumps, called “Jackpot Pumps” because they contain 15- inch flat screens for news, information, and special offers. A new underground gas tank that will allow for the storage of more gas will also be installed. Parking spaces in front of the store will make it more convenient for those who are running in to grab a quick snack or cold beverage.

“The Shakopee Dakota Convenience Store has operated fine for many years in its current configuration. We just thought it was time to update the store and its features to remain competitive,” said Retail Area Manager Michelle Watson about the upcoming changes.

There will also be some other changes. Much to the delight of customers, the Minnesota State Lottery is coming back. A loyalty program will also begin for customers to earn points to redeem at the store. With a switch to a new food vendor, food services will continue to increase. Produce and more hot foods will be available in the near future.

A Grand Re-Opening Celebration is tentatively scheduled for October 10, 2008.
