Mdewakanton Emergency Services, Allina, Scott County Offering National Incident Management System Training

Prior Lake, Minnesota - The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community announces a partnership with Allina Medical Transportation and Scott County to offer National Incident Management System (NIMS) classes. The trainings will be held at the Scott County Association for Leadership and Effectiveness (SCALE) facility in Jordan which recently opened. The classes are open to emergency service personnel and to any individuals who need the training. The trainings are being conducted in advance of the Republican National Convention to meet specific national guidelines.

Classes will be held May 28, 29, and 30th and June 25 and 26. The classes offered are the 300 and 400 levels which are command and control of large scale disasters. There is no charge for the classes. Students completing the class will receive Federal certification. A pre-requisite for eligibility to take the class is prior 700, 100, and 200 level training.

The classes, which will be taught by staff from Allina and Mdewakanton Emergency Services, are only offered a few times per year.

While most emergency situations are handled locally, when there is a major incident, help may be needed from other jurisdictions such as state and the federal agencies. NIMS was developed so responders from different jurisdictions and disciplines can work together better to respond to natural disasters and emergencies, including acts of terrorism. NIMS benefits include a unified approach to incident management; standard command and management structures; and emphasis on preparedness, mutual aid, and resource management.

Mdewakanton Emergency Services also provides customized training for police and fire departments, for example EMT, First Responder, Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, and CPR training for lay persons and health professionals. Other Continuing Education Classes are also available. For more information contact Jenny Fern, Project Coordinator, at 952-233-1077 or register online at www.mdfire.org.
